You
Belong in Hartford
Situated along the banks of the historic Connecticut River,
Hartford, Connecticut is conveniently located between metropolitan
giants, New York (2 hours to the west) and Boston (1.5
hours to the east).
Known as the "insurance capital of the world," downtown
Hartford is in the early stages of a renaissance to build
up its riverfront and surrounding neighborhoods.
Communities & Neighborhoods
Like most urban areas, Hartford is home to numerous cultural,
ethnic and racial communities. This diversity makes each
of the city's neighborhoods a distinct cultural experience
for residents and visitors, alike. Unfortunately, Hartford
is not immune to the problems that plague many urban
areas. Drugs, crime and urban blight are strife in many
of Hartford's communities. However, social programs,
like Hartford Choice, are working to turn these communities
around by tapping into its most vital asset...the youth
of Hartford.
Arts and Recreation
Surprisingly, Hartford has a growing niche in its arts
community. If you missed it on Broadway, the Bushnell
Theatre is where to go to see the best-of-the-best for performing
arts. If you are interested in the visual arts visit the
Wadsworth Antheneum, America's oldest public museum of
art.
If stress is getting the better of you and you are seeking
a quiet spot to get away, walk or job on over to Bushnell
Park, the oldest public park in America.
Connecticut is home
to the NCAA men's and women's basketball powerhouse UCONN
Huskies. Hartford also hosts amateur sports teams including
the American Hockey League's Wolfpack.
