Opportunities
with Hartford Choice
If you feel called to serve as a positive role model in
the life of an at-risk inner city youth, Hartford Choice
offers two exciting opportunities for you to make a difference:
our post-undergraduate Caseworker positions; and our student
Internship program. Ideal candidates are selected from
a pool of applicants based on a demonstrated commitment
toward making a difference in the lives of troubled youths.
If you have thought about joining the Peace
Corps, an
AmeriCorps program or some other benevolent organization
consider the benefits of being a Caseworker with Hartford
Choice before you make a commitment.
Caseworker
Position
Position Responsibilities:

Serve as a positive role model;
-
Participate in client intake and assessment interviews;
-
Generate daily reports and keep accurate, up-to-date
documentation of all clients;
-
Develop and maintain relationships with client’s
parents, emphasizing client accountability;
-
Provide intensive tracking services;
-
Provide client advocacy in the areas of health,
education, vocation, legal and family/foster
interventions;
-
Create and lead activity programs;
-
Establish aftercare plans and develop
resources to aid client as
he/she graduates from
the program.
Moreover, Choice remains committed to helping Caseworkers
find their future. Upon completion their one-year contractual
obligation, Catholic Family Services will pay Caseworkers
up to an additional six weeks to help ease the transition
between jobs.
Locating a new job is made easier, too. Caseworkers' extensive
contact with drug treatment centers, and other social and
human service programs gives them the opportunity to acquaint
themselves with potential employers, including:
In fact, the Choice model is so highly respected
that the Connecticut Department
of Children & Family
Services considers a one-year commitment to Choice
as two years
worth of experience in filling its case management
positions.
Student Internship Program
Requirements:
must be a student enrolled in college or
university
Position Overview:
Interns are expected to support our
team of caseworkers, and must be willing to work in direct
contact with juvenile parolees in the Greater Hartford
area.
Position Responsibilities:
Interns begin their training
shadowing caseworkers to pick up on advocacy, supervision
and crisis intervention skills. Individual responsibilities
vary with the level of commitment each person demonstrates,
but all interns must be willing to work a minimum of 15
hours per week. Scheduling is flexible and can include
nights and weekends.
Benefits:
Interns gain valuable work
experience, and come into contact with potential future
employers. Upon graduation
from college, capable interns are given a decided
advantage over all other applicants for Hartford Choice
Caseworker
positions.
