An Overview of Choice Services

The Hartford Choice Program (HCP) is a community based program for adjudicated youth, and a nationally recognized model for delinquency prevention programs.

We actively recruit college graduates to serve as caseworkers. If you’d like to make a difference in the life of a child, consider Hartford Choice.

Working within Hartford's inner-city communities, Choice caseworkers commit their time, energies and talents to meet the specific needs of adjudicated youth.

Our team approach involves caseworkers, parents and parole officers in a process of ensuring that the young people we work with have no future involvement in the juvenile justice system.

Choice’s most unique feature is the extensive monitoring we provide for the youth we serve. Caseworkers see clients from three to five times each day. This high level of supports allows us to create a secure atmosphere in which these young men and women are free to assume personal responsibilities. Once they realize the real choice lays within themselves, these remarkable young people are ready to take the future into their own hands

Working Towards One Goal

Our comprehensive aftercare program is designed with one goal in mind, successfully maintaining adjudicated youth in the community.

Types of Services

Among the services we provide are:

  • the emotional task of preparing the family for the youth’s return home;
  • the trying challenges of reintegrating the youth back into family life and into the community;
  • the anything-but-routine work of tracking the youth throughout the day, and monitoring his/her daily activities;
  • the selfless act of advocating for the youth's interests including his/her regular attendance in an appropriate academic setting, and assurance that his/her medial needs are met.
