Juvenile Prevention Services
Hartford Choice Program
Choice provides intensive intervention for youth ages
9-17 that have been found delinquent by the Juvenile
Court and are now released into the community under
the supervision of the Choice program. The program is
designed to work with youth and their parents/
guardians by helping them to develop responsible
behaviors. Choice engages youth in the school, home
and community.
Juvenile Diversion
Juvenile Diversion Program is designed to support youth 8-18 years of age and their families. Interventions are designed to promote family stability and increase motivation to perform academically. The program offers pro-social interventions that develop life skills, future aspirations, and maximizes the utilization of resources.
Juvenile Justice Intermediate Evaluation Overview
Juvenile Justice Intermediate Evaluation (JJIE) is designed to provide multidisciplinary mental health assessments to youth that have been referred by the juvenile court system. The youth and their families receive support through a strength-based comprehensive assessment designed to recommend the most appropriate level of support within a community based setting.
Juvenile Review Board
The goal is to divert first time misdemeanor offenders
from entering the juvenile justice system. Utilizing a
balanced and restorative justice approach and strong
community partnerships, the Juvenile Review Board reduces juvenile
delinquency while enhancing relationships between
individuals, families and the community.
Project APOYO
A bilingual culturally specific Alternative Sanctions program designed to offer young Latino Offenders (ages 16-21) who reside in the Greater New Haven area the supervision, support and education needed to bring about a positive and productive lifestyle. APOYO's goals are to reduce Latino over-representation in traditional incarceration programs, offer positive and productive activities to develop our youth's sense of responsibility and accountability, and to encourage and support famiily treatment on behalf of program youth.
STEP Program
An intensive community-based program designed to be an alternative to having a child remain in residential treatment, to facilitate a smooth transition for the adolescent being reintegrated back into their communty and to prevent further involvement with the juvenile justice system. STEP offers a day reporting program that includes education, structured recreation, community services, case management, individual and group services, family work, and access to mental health and substance abuse intervention and treatment. The STEP Program is specifically designed to address the community's need for safety, to hold the child accountable for his/her actions, and to increase the child's competencies to effect long-term and sustainable change.
