Behavioral Health launches new women’s trauma group

The Catholic Charities Behavioral Health team in New Haven is adding a new program to help women struggling to cope with grief and loss due to traumatic experiences. A group will meet every Tuesday (1-2:30 p.m.) from Feb. 27 through April 12 (except March 12).

The seven sessions will help women over 18 who are comfortable in group settings and who have:

> Lost a loved one within the last 18 months;

> Experienced significant trauma that has interrupted your daily life;

> Experienced physical, emotional or psychological abuse at the hands of someone you know.

The group will be led by Ariana Brasman, a Clinical Intern whose passion for helping women cope with grief was inspired by the death of her father when she was young.

“I want to offer women an opportunity to find support in each other while dealing with their raw emotions,” Ariana said. “That was something I had always hoped for after the loss of my dad, but did not know how or where to reach out.

“The hope is for women to find solace within each other and know they are not alone.”

The meetings will be at 501 Lombard St., New Haven. If you or anyone you know could be helped by the group, please call 203-787-2207 and schedule an evaluation.
