Agency to receive Blessed McGivney award

The Connecticut State Council of the Knights of Columbus will present our agency with the Blessed McGivney Award on March 24 as recognition of our “significant humanitarian, civic, and social contributions” to our communities. A statement from the Council said “Catholic Charities is well known; however, at times its efforts go unnoticed.” This award recognizes all of the great work you do. Congratulations! Workshops were held in late January at the three Hartford schools with our Community Schools programs — McDonough and Milner middle schools and Parkville Community School.

School workshops help families create ‘education oasis’

Our Community Schools team is really good at identifying needs and coming up with solutions. When some parents approached them recently because they were no longer able to help their children with complicated homework assignments, our schools team was determined to convince parents that they can still be helpful. So their answer was to host workshops for parents and their “scholars” to learn about creating an “education oasis,” a place in the home to study and focus in peace. Click here to read more.

Wolf Pack to salute Joel Cruz for military service

Joel Cruz, our Senior Director of Family Strengthening Programs & Institute for the Hispanic Family, will be honored as the Military Member of the Game during the Hartford Wolf Pack hockey game on Wednesday, March 27, at the XL Center in downtown Hartford. It will be a nice ceremony during the second period when they acknowledge Joel and his military accomplishments. Information about group tickets will be sent out soon.

And for you soccer fans, the Hartford Athletic season starts soon and we will have a limited number of tickets. The first home match is March 23.
