Seniors celebrate at annual Queen of Hearts

More than 100 people from our two senior centers in Hartford gathered for the annual Queen of Hearts celebration on Friday at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. For seniors who may not have had proms or quinceañeras, this fun and sometimes emotional party gives them a chance to dress up, dance and celebrate with friends.

The event began with Queen Maria Riguard, escorted by her son Michael, entering the ballroom after her court and receiving the crown from last year’s Queen, Esperanza Martinez. Following lunch, the seniors did what they do most days at the centers — dance!

Catholic Charities operates the Hispanic Senior Center at the Institute for the Hispanic Family at 45 Wadsworth St. and the South End Wellness Senior Center at 830 Maple Ave. The centers serve roughly 400 people combined in environments that are lively and promote a sense of community and wellness.
